P&A Group Raise over £15,214.27 For Alzheimer’s Society

    Award-winning P&A Group & supporters have raised £15,214.27 for their chosen charity Alzheimer’s Society during 2014 & 2015.

    The family run business which is made up of the Garden Centre, P&A pallets, Eco classroom installation and timber garden furniture manufacture, has raised the amazing total through a whole range of events and initiatives. These included the Edinburgh marathon raising almost £1, 5000, Ironman Wales 2014 & 2015 and Ironman Poland 2015 and many other smaller fundraisers.

    Steve Morgan MD and John Vaughan, P&A Timber Buildings Manager along with, Rob Boyn’s from Boyns.net, inspired local school children to take on their own sporting challenges and raise money for Alzheimer’s Society with local school Ysgol Llanbedr raising £350 and the Rhyl Community of schools raising an amazing £4205.00.

    Steve Morgan, MD and John Vaughan joined by Rob Boyns from Boyns.net (now triple Ironman champions) inspired the 8 Rhyl Schools, known as the Rhyl Community of Schools, by going along to talk the children about how important it is to support the community as well as have a healthy approach to life.

    Teachers from the 8 Rhyl schools that took part in the Rhyl Community of Schools triathlon, in September, came to P&A garden Centre on Friday 11th March to join the Iron men in presenting the cheque totalling £15,214.27 to Ruth Owen and Jacki from the Alzheimer’s Society.  As part of the fundraising initiative there was a £250 P&A voucher as a prize for the most inspirational story as a result of the schools triathlon – this was won by Ysgol Bryn Hedydd who wrote about how the staff from the school have collectively lost over 20 stone in weight during 1 year as part of their fundraising efforts and fitness challenge. The winning school who raised the most money was Ysgol Emmanuel, Rhyl, who raised in total £2042.45.

    Ysgol Llanfair raised over £350 and contributed it to the funds as they had also held their own sporting triathlon after hearing about the Iron men.

    Other fundraising events including P&A’s Charity golf day, Santa’s Grotto in P&A Garden Centre and cafe, Nia Morgan’s Edinburgh marathon and John Vaughan’s body waxing challenge, in readiness for the Welsh Ironman which raised a few eye brows as well as some money. One of the biggest challenges of the year was The Ironman Wales which took place in Tenby in September and is considered to be one of the toughest distance triathlons in the world. Steve John and Rob completed a 2.4 mile sea swim, a 112 mile bike ride and a 26.2 mile run in well under fifteen hours.

    Steve Morgan said,

As a family business, contributing to the community is an important part of what we do and is in our mission statement.     With an office in Mold, Alzheimer’s Society works tirelessly to support people throughout the area. In addition to fundraising, the P&A Group has been helping to raise awareness of the support available for local people coping with the condition. P&A Garden Centre, has collaborated with Alzheimer’s Society by hosting a number of gardening sessions during which people living with dementia and family members have attended workshop
