P&A Group based in Mold support Responsible Business Week, the high-profile annual awareness week that is dedicated to profiling responsible business.
Responsible Business Week 2015 (20 – 26 April), coordinated by Business in the Community, provides a unique opportunity to draw attention to the powerful difference that business makes to the economic, social and environmental challenges we face as a nation.
Across Wales and the rest of the UK, thousands of businesses took part in this opportunity to be more open and vocal about the contribution they make to society from supporting their employees and future workforce, developing enterprise opportunities, taking action on the environment, to supporting routes into sustained employment.
P&A Group took part in Responsible Business Week by welcoming 34 business students from the Alun School in Mold for a Site Tour and workshop. The visit started with a warm welcome to P&A Garden Centre & Woodworks Café followed by a guided tour of the production areas and warehouses. The pupils also completed a worksheet at the end of the tour. The pupils learnt about most business practices including, manufacturing, LEAN process and corporate social responsibility. Each pupil was given a 100% recycled wood bird box as a souvenir.
The GCSE business studies pupils enjoyed a tour around the difference departments at P&A, starting at the Garden Centre & Café and enjoying a breakfast roll and ending in the production warehouse. P&A employees from different parts of the business took part in the tour, sharing lots of interesting facts and figures about their department and how the company has grown.
Commenting Steve Morgan, Managing Director, P&A Group, said
“I feel passionate about sharing as much business knowledge as possible with the next generation of business leaders. It is vitally important that local businesses get involved with inspiring and equipping young people to get into the world of work.
“As a member of Business in the Community, we take our commitment to working with local schools incredibly seriously and it is great that as part of Responsible Business Week we were able to get so many business students from the Alun School along to P&A to see what we are doing and get a feel for how business works.”
Commenting Rosie Sweetman, Director of Business in the Community Cymru, said:
“Responsible Business Week is an opportunity to raise the profile of business as a force for good and talk about the positive difference that business makes to our communities, environment and local economy.
“Companies from across Wales, and of all sizes, are already changing the way business works. They understand that values are more than words on a page and must truly affect the way a business treats employees, neighbours, customers and suppliers. We have fantastic examples of responsible business in action through school partnerships, prompt payments, supply chain development, employee well-being initiatives, volunteering and many more!
