On a visit to the P&A Group in Mold, the Economy Secretary heard how the family run award-winning business has seen a year on year increase in turnover of up to 30% as well as increased profitability over the past five years.
Managing Director Steve Morgan discussed the company’s strategic growth plans for the next five years including exporting and importing that will lead to further job creation.
The Group currently employs 135 people and its Zest4Leisure high quality timber garden furniture division is currently benefiting from support through the Welsh Government’s Accelerated Growth Programme to maximise its growth potential in a competitive market.
Mr. Skates described the P&A Group as an excellent example of an indigenous Welsh company that has grown from a small business into a thriving company, operating nationally with many diverse operations.
“The need for innovative Welsh businesses is greater than ever before and I was delighted to hear of their growth plans that have the potential to create more local jobs. The Group has continually demonstrated its ability to drive forward the development of their range of products and is proactively looking for new business opportunities overseas which supports our commitment to encourage more businesses in Wales to trade internationally and access new markets.”
The business, established in 1985 as a manufacturer of timber pallets and packing cases, now has six divisions that include: Fencing & Timber Buildings delivering eco-classrooms and natural learning environments for schools, garden offices, log cabins for homes, and innovative outdoor timber structures; Pallets and cases supply smaller specialist companies and large blue chip organisation and also supply woodchip for Bio mass boilers; Zest4 Leisure is a leading supplier of furniture and timber products to the garden trade industry; P&A Garden Centre & Woodworks Café and St Andrew’s Business Centre where serviced offices are available for rent with comprehensive ICT and support services, onsite conference facilities and twenty-four hour security.
