The P&A Group Rounds-Off a Busy Year with Charity Fundraising Success

Mold-based P&A Group has rounded-off a busy and challenging 2020 by raising an impressive £10,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The charity provides physical, financial and emotional support to people diagnosed with cancer, from the moment they have been diagnosed through treatment and beyond.

The company revealed in February that Macmillan would be its charity of the year for 2020 and had planned a schedule of fundraising activities spread across the year. Inevitably, the pandemic had a major impact on this, however, employees still managed to raise £5,000 by eating cake, running, holding a monthly 50/50 draw and raffling off an extra day’s holiday. In addition, three plucky employees – Fiona Black, Crystal Pritchard and Adam Evans – took part in the annual ‘Brave the Shave” and Adam even had his legs waxed!

Impressed by their employees’ efforts, the Directors of P&A matched the funds raised making the new total £10,000.

Commenting on the money raised, Steve Morgan, Managing Director of the P&A Group said:

“Despite the challenges of raising funds for charity during a pandemic, I am very proud of what we have been able to achieve as a family-run business and I’d like to say thank you to everyone who has supported our efforts.

“Like many charities, Macmillan has been hit hard by the pandemic with an expected shortfall in fundraising income of £175m by the end of 2022. This will have a direct impact on cancer sufferers who need the vital support of this charity.

“Because of this, we have decided to support Macmillan again next year in the hope that we can fulfil our promise to them by raising significantly more money in 2021.”

    Company News

In other company news, P&A Group has revealed that the Pallets Division worked continuously throughout the two lockdowns, supporting its key customers operating in the “Essential Services” category. These included businesses in the Food, Medical, Agriculture, Chemical, Building and Nuclear industries.

The Woodworks Garden Centre and Café also worked hard to deliver a new COVID safe way of shopping. The team made a lot of changes to the way the garden centre and café operated to comply with the COVID guidelines resulting in customers being very complimentary about how safe and welcome they were made to feel. Woodworks also generously offered a 10% discount to all NHS customers. Although The Woodworks Garden Centre and Café has recently had to close due to a change in Government guidelines, the team is looking forward to helping to brighten up customers’ gardens in 2021.

Finally, Zest 4 Leisure, a leading supplier of high-quality, sustainably sourced timber garden furniture, fencing, trellis, gazebos, arches and a wide range of planters, and part of the P&A Group, won four awards at Glee, the UK’s most valuable garden and outdoor living trade show. Despite never having won at this trade show before, the company won in three categories for its Three Tier Stackable Raised Bed, the Easy Build Burghley Arbour and the Cherry Blossom Arch. To add to this success, the Three Tier Stackable Raised Bed won the prestigious Best New Product in Show Award.

Wrapping up 2020, Steve Morgan said:

“I could not be prouder of the people we have in our P&A Group ‘family’. We are a diverse group of businesses and each one has faced its own unique challenges over the past twelve months but the teams rose to the challenge and have flourished.

I am delighted with the loyalty, perseverance and adaptability everyone has shown and I would like to say a very sincere thank you for all they have done to get us through 2020 in such remarkable shape.”
