P&A Group Supports Toyota Education STEM Event

The region’s leading timber manufacturer and biomass fuel producer, The P&A Group, was proud to participate in the Toyota STEM event, which saw school children being inspired to learn more about Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Over 1000 pupils from schools in Flintshire, Denbighshire, Conwy, Wrexham and Cheshire were invited to the event, which was organised by Welsh Government.

A variety of organisations exhibited at the event and invited pupils to explore games, experiments and exciting experiences that promoted the STEM subjects. Employees at the P&A Group engaged pupils by running a competition to assemble a wooden Christmas tree in the fastest time possible. Lots of pupils enjoyed taking part in the workshop and many different techniques and methods were employed to build the trees throughout the two-day challenge! Ysgol Y Grango, Wrexham, was hailed the winning school and was awarded a school bench by the P&A Group.

The P&A Group has developed its own eco classrooms specifically for schools. At the Toyota event, the P&A Group presented the benefits of installing a bespoke eco classroom to create a natural learning environment. These environmentally friendly classrooms have all the necessary features required for effective learning.

As a producer of recycled woodchip, the P&A Group also presented the many benefits of biomass to support the pupils’ understanding of alternative fuels. Operating within the biomass supply chain, the P&A Group is assisting the UK to achieve its environmental targets for renewable energy. The pupils learned how biomass fuel is becoming more popular, as it helps to reduce the amount of emissions that would usually be produced by the burning of traditional fossil fuels.

The P&A Group joined a variety of organisations at the event, including The Biofore Company, Go Motorsport, Boxford, JCB, Techniquest Glyndŵr, Welsh Water, Glyndŵr University, Coleg Cambria, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Airbus, DRB Group, Techsoft, Westbridge Furniture, the Royal Society of Chemistry, Bloodhound SSC, University of Wales Aberystwyth, Oioptiq, the RAF and TATA Steel.
