The P&A Group raised over £22,000 for Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith children’s hospices in 2019 with help from children competing in the Rhyl Schools triathlon event.
A total of six schools - Ysgol Llywelyn, Ysgol Y Castell, Christchurch School, Ysgol Emmanuel, Ysgol Esgob Morgan, Ysgol Bryn Hedydd – joined forces with the P&A Group and other local businesses for a charity triathlon. Schools took part in their own triathlons with children being encouraged to get involved, take part in the activity and fundraise for charity. Finalists from each of the six schools were then chosen to represent their school at the finals event with the money raised - £2,500 - added to P&A’s fundraising total.
Commenting on the Rhyl Learning Community triathlon challenge, Steve Morgan, P&A Group’s Managing Director said:
“It’s really important to us as a business that we engage with and support our local community and the Rhyl schools triathlon is a perfect example of this.
“The finals event is a fantastic day and I’m always impressed by the levels of fitness and competitiveness shown by the school finalists. This year the schools raised £2,500 which pushed our total fundraising amount to over £22,000. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who helped us raise this money, including all the suppliers, friends and customers of P&A, and I’d like to say a huge and special thank you to all the schools and children involved!”
The money raised has been donated to Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith children’s hospices which provide care and support to children and young people with serious illnesses and life limiting conditions, and their families.
Nicola Sciarrillo, Area Fundraiser for Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith said:
“It’s wonderful to have received a cheque for £2,500 from The Rhyl Learning Community, six schools who join together to take part in a charity triathlon. The amount raised is incredible and it’s testament to the school children who have taken part showing their care and passion to others who live in their communities and perhaps don’t have the same opportunities as they do. It’s empowering to see children raising money for other children.
“The whole year of fundraising with the P&A Group has been a whirlwind from start to finish with teams getting involved to raise money in a variety of ways throughout the year. Thank you really doesn’t seem enough. In my five years of fundraising for Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith I have never worked with a company who truly fully immerse themselves in every fundraising opportunity available (and some!). It has been a pleasure working the P&A Group over the last 12 months.”
The P&A Group of Companies was established in 1985 as a manufacturer of timber pallets, packing cases and fence panels. It has since grown into a successful multi-divisional organisation selling timber products to the garden trade industry, pallets, manufacturing and installing eco classrooms for schools and includes the Woodworks Garden Centre and Café in Mold.
Committed to employee fitness and long-term well-being, as well as supporting the community, the P&A Group has almost raised £100,000 over the last nine years for various chosen charities. The Managing Director, Steve Morgan, was also recently presented with the Lord Barry Jones Legacy Award at the Flintshire Business Awards in recognition of his outstanding services to local business and the economy.
